History:
Island Records was founded in Jamaica in 1959 by Chris Blackwell and Graeme Goodall. The company was UK based for many years. Until Blackwell sold the label to PolyGram in 1989 for £272 million, Island was the largest indie record label in history. PolyGram is now owned by Universal Music Group.
Other acts signed to Island Records:
- Florence And The Machine
- Keane
- Erik Hassle
- Mumford And Sons
- Plain White Tees
It is appropriate because Island was the largest indie record label in history and still has many successful indie artists today, which suggests they could make our band successful too.
